FRYS.com is the best place to buy!!! Trust me!
You’ll need to know:
RAM (computer memory)
GB (hard drive for storing stuff)
Disc drives (CD-rom, DVD-rom, ect)
GHZ processor (this tells you how fast the machine will be)
Let me know if you need to know more!

Get something with plenty of RAM (1meg at least). A multimedia machine should have good video memory too but most important go for something that has service support locally. I use Toshiba Satellite they are very good. Check out the range.

Alright:
Opperating System: Windows XP or Vista (idk about Vista I havent used it yet)
RAM: Try to get at least 1 GB
Memory: Try 60-150 GB
Processor: Intel Core Duo 2 is awesome
Those are some basics.
For a good deal on a laptop, if you are really interested in ordering online, you can email what you are willing to spend and I can customize you a good one and send the link for you to look at it or you can go to Dell or Gateway.com. (use Y! Answers to email me if you choose that option)

OK I think these people have pretty much covered it. But the single most important thing to look for when you get a brand new computer is a WARRANTY! Computer hardware breaks. It’s a simple fact. Sometimes it’s the user’s fault, sometimes it’s just general failure. Either way, you’re pretty much gambling with your own money if you buy a new computer without a warranty.
