Hi There,
I’m in the process of filing bankruptcy after years of living on credit beyond my means in good times and in bad. I’ve since cut up all my credit cards, but still seeking the “thrill of the deal” using my debit card bargain shopping with money I’ve withdrawn from my IRA’s. Starting a new job and want to focus on making money instead of spending it! Any advice on staying focused on work? Thanks to you all.

I don’t have any advice. I have a serious shopping addiction too, but the bad thing is, no one seems to realize that it’s a real addiction. They don’t take it as seriously as drugs or alcohol and it really is. I’ve looked for shopaholics anonymous’ in my area and can’t find any. I haven’t filed for bankruptcy because my personal opinion is it’s taking the easy way out and like you said, it doesn’t curb the craving so it’s only solving the problem temporarily, but they are curing anything. I’m going to tag your question so see if you get any good answers that will be helpful for me too! Good luck. I’ve been struggling for about 10 years now.
Shopping Deals
I remember one question that helped a lot of shopping addicts, and before you buy something, you have to ask yourself seriously “is this a want, or a need?” and if its a need, you get it, and if its a want don’t buy it. Don’t justify wants to yourself though, a 14th pair of shoes is a want, not a need, I don’t care if it goes perfect with a pair of jeans you have. haha.

1) Budget how much you can afford to spend.
2) Research on products you want to buy using
3) Use to see which store has the best offer.
4) Use deal sites like instead of paying full retail prices.
